Cheap Commercial Insurance: Things to Consider

There are many different types of business that require cheap commercial insurance. Retail is one of the largest sectors, with areas such as shops, fish and chip takeaways, restaurants and pubs all needing commercial insurance cover.

The insurance cover a shop will need will have to cover aspects such as building and contents, employer's liability (which is required by law for a retailer that has employees), public liability (in case of accident or injury to a member of the public whilst in your shop) and stock protection (so your stock is protected against incidents such as fire, theft, floods etc). Other options may include cash cover (insurance on the cash held on site), theft by current employees and terrorism (in case of a terrorist attack in which the building is damaged or lost).

Cheap commercial insurance for a fish and chip takeaway will need to cover the same aspects as a shop in building, contents, employer's liability and public liability insurances but also it must be taken into account the nature of the business and the risk of incidents such as fire resulting from human error or faulty equipment on site. Therefore, items such as fryers must be insured. Other aspects, such as hygiene, health and safety will also need to be taken into account, as if these contravene the limits set by the law, the insurance may become invalid.

It may often be the case that policies for fish and chip shops may be more expensive than for other sectors, as specialist risks are faced by those who work there and also to members of the public who may be present at the time of an accident. Historically, this has been the case.

Restaurant owners looking to buy cheap commercial insurance will need to think about the aspects of their business that definitely require cover. Again, limits on hygiene, health and safety will need to be observed and kept within the law so avoid rendering the insurance policy invalid. Buildings, contents, employer's liability and public liability insurance are all definite sections that need to be covered, and optional extras may include business interruption insurance (this covers against the loss of income in the event of trading having to cease temporarily) and terrorism.

Those looking for cheap commercial insurance for their pub or guest house will again need to ensure their hygiene, health sand safety limits are acceptable. They will have the same concerns as those who own restaurants and fish and chip shops in terms of ensuring they have adequate cover for employer's liability, public liability, buildings and contents. Members of the public who frequent pubs may be at higher risk of accident due to the nature of the drink sold, so it is important to ensure sufficient cover is in place for such eventualities.

Whatever type of cheap commercial insurance cover you require, ensure you do your research into the various levels and policies available before making your choice. One company may be more expensive than another, but offer a better deal for what you pay. Whilst value must always be kept in mind, it is just as important to make sure that, if something does happen, you will have peace of mind in your insurance cover.
